Minnesota-man hospitalized by motorcycle crash near Bend

BEND, Ore. --  A 62-year-old Minnesota man is seriously injured after he crashed his Harley Davidson Friday night on Highway 20 west of Bend, police said.

Arlen L. Smiens from Montevideo, Minnesota was driving eastbound toward Bend on Highway 20W. Smiens tried stopping the bike when a vehicle in front of him was turning left onto Cascade Estates Drive. He then lost control and the bike tipped over on its side. Smiens rolled on the pavement several times. Smiens sustained serious injuries even though he was wearing a helmet.

An ambulance took Smiens to a second location where Lifeflight then transported him to St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. He is currently in critical condition.

The crash closed Highway 20w near Cascade Estates Drive for around 30 minutes.
