Missing hunters found near Sweet Home
SWEET HOME, Ore. -- Two hunters were reported missing early Saturday morning after they didn't return from a day hunt in the Sweet Home area. The men were found near an access road nearly eight hours after they were reported missing.
Linn County Sheriff's Office got a call from friends of the hunters at 3 A.M. Saturday reporting that their vehicle was abandoned down a forest service road near the House Rock Campground.
The sheriff's office sent out crews to search the area for the two men, identified as David Ulrich, 28, and Pobert Paige, 25.
Search teams located the men at around 11 A.M. when they walked out to an access road. Both men were found uninjured and in good condition.
Ulrich and Paige said that they lost signal on their GPS and lost their way Friday night. The men decided to spend the night in the wilderness, planning on hiking out in the morning.
Officials said that both hunters were experienced in the woods and were prepared to spend the night.
Members of the Linn Co. Mounted Possee and Search and Rescue crew, US Fire Service workers and people from the Marion County 4-Wheel Drive Club assisted with the rescue effort.
Well I'm glad they found them. My uncle is still missing in the Sutherlin area. Unfortunately, we received very little help last month when he went missing. S & R helped for a few days....but that was all. The rest was up to us. A helicopter with heat seeking ability might have been hugely helpful. My aunt looks out her window daily at the mountain where he is missing...and it's heartbreaking. 74 years old...and just gone. It has made us very grateful for the family each time someone is found.
Gps.?.. I was brought up in the old school way of things.. Been running  out in the woods all my life..thus far..have never gotten lost..Relied on the old fashioned way..of marking a trail in.... so as to find the way out , if in unknown territory.. Guess modern day folk have become too lazy..or just don't know the old school way of doing things.. Blm and forest service maps work well too..
