Mohawk River flooding prompts evacuation notice

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Residents along the Mohawk River near Springfield should evacuate the area, the Lane County Sheriff's Office said early Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the area. The sheriff urged residents of Sunderman Road and the surrounding area to leave ASAP.

Monitor the road access situation closely and leave as soon as possible via the safest accessible route, the sheriff said.

Community members are encouraged to stay with family or friends outside the flood affected area.  If people need assistance with transport out of your home please call 911.

For Marcola area residents, the Briggs Middle School, located at 2355 Yolanda Street in Springfield, opened at 4 p.m. as a shelter.
