SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - In 2 hours flat, volunteers put a roof over a pregnant woman's head for less than $500

Victoria Graham and her partner Tim will have a home when their baby arrives August 30.

On Friday, volunteers built a Conestoga hut for them to live in at First Baptist Church in Springfield.

The huts are part of the implementation of the Opportunity Village plan in Eugene. The insulated 6-by-10 hut built Friday is the first in Springfield.

The Springfield Shelter Rights Alliance hopes to secure funding and locations for 30 such huts by the end of the year.

Each hut costs less than $500 in materials.
