Hunger strike for unhoused: 'My message isn't really my message, it is everyone's message'
EUGENE, Ore. -- Conrad Barney is taking the work of passive-resistance pioneers and applying their work to a controversial Eugene movement.
He is on a hunger strike and said that he won't eat until Eugene's homeless community has a safe place to sleep at night.
“My message isn't really my message, it is everyone's message," said Barney.
He said that he has gone 31 full days without solid foods. A former chef, Barney said that life without food has been particularly hard to swallow.
Now, Conrad gets by on supplements, juice and water while making a statement in support of the Eugene SLEEPS movement.
Ashley Olson at Eugene’s Complete Nutrition store said that it is very unhealthy to deprive your body of the essentials gained from eating food.
“You could survive for a certain time period but I think that eventually your energy is low, your fatigued or depleting in muscle,” said Olson.
Barney said that he understands the personal risks of the hunger strike. He believes that his sacrifice is worth it.
“As I progress I’m paying really close attention to my body … later down the line there’s concerns of heart issues ands kidney issues,” Barney said.
With just over a month of consuming nothing but supplements and juice under his belt, Conrad has lost around 40 pounds.
Barney said that he’s in it for the long haul, and will continue his hunger strike until Eugene’s homeless have a place to sleep.
“Tons of solutions - we just have to get together and make it happen,” Conrad said.
The globalists want you homeless, dependant and powerless, that is why our "leaders" dont give a sh**.
Hate to break it to him, but with the jailing releasing so many convicts, there is NO place safe to sleep at night whether it be on the streets or in a home/shelter. He wants to make the streets safer for those without shelter? Help find a solution to keeping the evil off the streets and out of population.
@Twistthewrist Twist, Maybe if the Eugene City police were concentrating on important issues like arresting abusers (one reason why single mothers and their children are homeless), or child neglect perpetrators, (why many children are homeless) or true criminals (Twist, you really must understand that convicted people who do their time, have the right to be released) instead of bending to the whim of Liane Richardson, the county administrator, then maybe the streets would be safer. Maybe you should ask Liane Richardson who pays the Eugene City police to do her "County job" bidding, Twist...
And the powers that be, the lame stream media, the police, etc... could care less! If they did there would already been a place for homeless people to sleep!
Â
People in general just plain don't give two Sh*** about their neighbors let alone someone who doesn't look right or doesn't smell very good!
Â
God protect us from ourselves!
Bon Appitiet.
Thank God for Conrad Barney!
Aparrently he is the only person in Eugene that cares about homeless and hungry people.
The rest of the people in the Eugene area just want the homeless and hungry people to commit suiside.
@George Heustis Naw, its better to be a productive member of society rather than chose to be a leech and a drain on resources.Â
Â
I don't think anyone is suggesting they commit  --- what ever that is you can't spell.Â

@Jason Marks  @George Heustis Mr. Marks, I have seen your rude troll posts all over other Eugene's media about anyone you deem less than yourself. Your job at Willamalane Rec's may make you feel superior to people who are exercising their right to freedom of speech, but let me inform you that as a representative of Lane County I would prefer that their employees not exact their class ignorance on other fellow humans in Lane County. Maybe you are in the wrong job, because as a county employee you are responsible to serve all in Lane County, not just your narrow minded version of who is productive. I guarantee you that Conrad Barney has contributed productively to the common good of Lane County far greater than you could ever hope to. All you have to do is compare posts between the two of you. While you have spent a great deal of time hiding behind your keyboard posting in every internet media venue ridiculing efforts of grassroots activists, Conrad Barney is in the streets helping people to become productive members of this community. What that means, in very simple terms, Mr. Marks, is that your discourse is meaningless because your posts come from an egocentric bully, not that of a productive contributor of our community. My suggestion is to research the people you look down your nose at before you blindly post online for all (including your employer) to read.
@Jason Marks @George Heustis I think George is talking about eating raw fish.
