EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon's unemployment rate is at 7.7 percent, its lowest point in five years, and a new barbecue joint in Eugene is part of that change.
Leni Feaomoeata said he moved to Eugene a month ago, and finally found employment at Dickey’s BBQ.
“I was looking for a job and it was pretty hard, searching around,” said Feaomoeata. “I'm actually getting married in February, so I also wanted to save up for that… saving for my own place for my fiancé and I.”
Leni said he saw a sign advertising for the new, Texas-based barbecue restaurant coming to north Eugene and decided to send in his resumé.
“A few weeks later they called me back,” smiled Leni.
He wasn’t the only one. Joy Hedge, one of the managers at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, says 20 people were hired for their new spot.
Eugene is the second Oregon location for the popular ribs joint, Pendleton is the first.
“We're very community oriented, so we get out do fundraisers for schools - that kind of thing. So we thought Eugene was a good spot for all of that,” said Hedge.
Dickey’s is hosting a grand opening Thursday at their location on Coburg Road.
