A little pick me up? Or does the thought of working out weigh on you?

EUGENE, Ore. - Lose weight, eat healthy foods and flex those pecs.

Resolutions are easy to start. The challenge is keeping them.

A new CNN poll reveals nearly 40 percent of Americans don't go for a New Year's diet and fitness program.

"I think that the poll is appalling if you initially listen to the 40 percent of people avoiding it," said fitness instructor Erin Piibor, "but I think it's just being scared."

Piibor is in the business of taking fear out of fitness. She said a big first step is shake up your routine.

"And that means looking at your daily schedule, and finding that time to either work out at home or come into the gym," she said. "Whatever it is to do something different."

She recomends you set mini-fitness goals along the way. A plan - and perseverance - will help you stick to your plan.

Patrick Falk has been on his program 2 years.

"Getting past that plateau to where you can start seeing results is probably the hardest part," he said. "So if you stick with it, you will start seeing results. It will get easier and easier."

Above all, Piibor stresses patience: you're in for the long haul.

"If you can stick with it past 3 weeks, you will feel better," she said. "You'll see those changes."
