No one hurt in pair of semi crashes on icy Hwy 58
One truck crashed, blocking eastbound lanes. Another trucker hit the brakes approaching the crash scene and wound up losing control, blocking the westbound lanes.

CRESCENT LAKE, Ore. - Icy roads caused two big rigs to crash Tuesday night on Highway 58 between Willamette Pass and Highway 97.

No one was injured.

The first crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. as an eastbound semi rounded a downhill curve, state police said.

The driver lost control on black ice. The truck crashed into several trees, a traffic sign and fog marker before crossing the highway and jackknifing. The truck and trailer came to rest in the eastbound shoulder ditch amongst trees, blocking the eastbound lane.

Neither the driver nor his passenger in the sleeper berth suffered physical injuries in the crash, police said.

A little while later, another semi approaching the crash scene hit the brakes - and lost control.

The second truck jackknifed and came to rest blocking the westbound lanes. The driver was not hurt.

State police and Oregon DOT responded and kept one lane of traffic open through the crash scenes until tow trucks could remove the wreckage.
