OSP: Motorcycle rider eludes police at 180 mph

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A man riding a motorcycle hit speeds of around 183 miles per hour before crashing the bike on Hubbard Creek Road, Oregon State Police said.
Authorities say it all started at about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday when a trooper clocked a motorcycle going 95 miles per hour northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 81.
Officials say the trooper started to chase the rider but backed off when the motorcycle hit speeds of over 100 miles per hour, allegedly weaving in and out of traffic.
Police say they lost sight of the man, later identified as Jeffrey B. Engebretson, 23, of Grants Pass, around the Canyonville area.
Two more troopers spotted him and tried to stop him near the Winston interchange, but they say Engebretson again sped away.
Troopers say he took exit 125 and headed east on Garden Valley.
Officials say they again located him one more time, before he crashed his motorcycle on the gravel portion of Hubbard Creek Road, less than a mile after the pavement ended.
Authorities say he fled into the woods but was located and arrested without incident.
Troopers say he told them he was going up to 183 miles per hour on Interstate 5, and 142 miles per hour on Garden Valley Blvd.
Engebretson was lodged in the Douglas County Jail, charged by OSP with felony eluding police, reckless driving and reckless endangering.
end of that drivers licence..
Â
a felony puts you in a bad spot for the rest of your life.Â
Â
STUPID, ruined most every chance in his entire life from this point forward.Â
Â
I would have pulled over and taken the lump... (but then, I am kinda a common sense guy)
Â
You can't get rid of a felony and no one will hire you with one.Â
Running off and trying to hide in the woods. Â Silly.
Whoever said it couldn't of been a cruiser need to research the bone stock yamaha vmax.
@Shofoeshore That would be me. If you're going over 140 on a VMAX, you have bigger problems than trying to prove a point. You would likely end up worse than this young kid who thought he knew everything. Maybe you can do it, but you won't do it for long, because either you would realize your folly, or it wouldn't matter, because you wouldn't be around to brag about it.
Why even chase him and put the public at risk don't cops have a dash cams.....get the picture=)
 @IAMHIGH If speeding up and running away meant that the cops had to break off pursuit was the answer all these guys would do it.  Catch those suckers.Â
Unless the dash cam is close enough, they wouldn't be able to make out the license plate number. Without a license plate, they got nothin.....
Â
@JJ97477 Yeah after reading your post..I thought if they got a picture it would be blurry at best or blank.
Last rush he will have for a while!
Sounds like fun
142 mph down Garden Valley Blvd! Wish i could have seen that, however brief a glimps or blurr it would have been. He must have gotten from grants pass to the berg in 15 minutes.
Manufactures of these bike should be required by law to put a self-destruct device in these bikes that causes the engine to disintegrate at no more than 88mph...kind of like back to the future.
@Sparky62--- at least make it triple digits at 100mph
 @peace How about 101.5mph? I did think I may have been a bit low at 88mph, but if 88mph can send a Delorean with a flux capacitor into the future, I thought maybe it could send this idiot into the hereafter.
This had to be one of the "Metric" bikes (also known as "Crotch Rockets") and not a criuser, due to the speeds hit. These bikes are fast and dangerous. There's no need to go over 70 on them, but they surely will.Â
Â
As a biker, this only increases my insurance and makes us look bad. These young, indestructible, people need realize that motorcycles are very dangerous, and you have to be vigilant and responsible to even get onto one. He's lucky he's still alive.
Â
<Sarcasm...>
Â
They sould make it illegal to own these types of motorcycles because they also "look" scary, and they can kill people with them.
Â
</Sarcasm>
@JJ97477 Those dang squids...
@JJ97477: As you are most likely aware, some of those bikes are capable of exceeding 200 mph. Many autos that can reach those speeds have electronic governors to prevent idiots from actually reaching those speeds. Similar devices should be put on all civilian vehicles, including motorbikes.
@JJ97477 ---you will never see me on any motorcycle, with all the dam deer every where in Roseburg.
Moron....should lose bike endorsement for life.
@Phil: He should lose his license for life.
@Phil: He should lose his life. - O h wait...?
A better charge would be for gross stupidity!
If you've ever driven Garden Valley Blvd., you know what I mean.
Â
Oh, I forgot. We don't legislate against stupidity. Darwin does that. It just takes a little longer.
Hopefully, this boy will never be allowed (through one means of another) to be involved in the reproduction process!
What an idiot.
