Oakland, Ore. man loses iPod, then freedom
ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man who left an iPod containing child porn on a gas station counter has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The News-Review of Roseburg reports that Jason Daniel Goodman apologized to the community as he left the courtroom in handcuffs this week.
The 34-year-old from Oakland, Ore., added that his addictions to alcohol and pornography had cost him "everything."
Goodman left his iPod at a Shell station in Sutherlin in October 2010.
After five months, a Shell employee took the unclaimed iPod home, where his wife found it contained about 200 sexual images of young girls.
The couple turned the iPod over to police, and Goodman was arrested. Goodman's mother later found pictures of prepubescent girls on her son's cellphone.
The iPod is now court property.
Most of the time my immediate reaction to someone who possesses child pornography is "hang the such and such." Â In this instance, however, I feel some pity for the subject and my hang the such and such is directed at the monsters who make and sell these images. Â Also the abuse of alcohol is a very serious problem and how to make wine, beer, and social drinking available without endangering too many people is a problem which has not yet been solved.
@Reis Kash ---It would seem appropriate to punish the manufacturers and distributors of such filth with the heaviest sentences possible. The mere possession of such abominational images warrants a lessor penalty. Agreed. Heavier penalties to the supply side of crime are certainly more appropriate than fighting the demand side as in the case of illegal drugs (especially meth). Being caught in a meth lab (Manufacturing) is about 1/2 a million bucks . Use and distribution is about $100,000. Possession is about $50,000. All @s depend on quantity and # offenses ,etc.Â
My other concerns are of young girls who take pictures of themselves with their cell phones in order to earn money, just like teen prostitution without an adult pimp involved. Authorities obviously need to allocate greater penalties to the demand side.
I also have great sympathy for the poor chump or patsy who unknowingly has such images imported onto his cell-phone or computer. Because, there are plenty of evil pranksters out there in cyber-space!!!
Still another sympathy goes to the guy who faithfully walks to/fro his favourite pub to avoid driving drunk AND THEN gets cited for indescent exposure at 2:00 am because he couldn't find a public toilet on his long walk home.

I am an occasional bar fly, and try my best not to relieve myself in the ally on the long walk home from the bar. But, if I get an indecent exposure charge, I cannot blame it on the beer. With my prostate, it is best to where an adult diaper, rather than risk such a charge. Anybody know if such a charge could force one to register as a sex offender---assuming, one was not being a weeny wager while pee writing foul language on a grade school fence?

I am ao happy that people like him must register as a sex offender AFTER he does jail time. On the DOUGLAS COUNTY INMATES, we can see a lot of people under lockdown for FAILING to Register as a sex offender. Is that a life-time requirement? Hope so in his case. How people get the child victim to pose in such a fasion is pure evil! Knowingly possessing such images is as evil as those scum that do the devil's bidding with their camera.
