Officials: Man almost drives into police station during escape attempt

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A 51-year-old man was charged with DUII - among other things - after he tried to get away from police and crashed his van into some shrubs outside the Milwaukie public safety building, police said.

Police said they tried to stop Gregory Fischer near Highway 224 and S.E. Harrison St., but he drove off.

During his attempted escape, police said he drove off the road before plowing into the shrubs a few feet away from the wall of the public safety building.

After the crash, police said Fischer jumped out of his van and refused to cooperate with officers.

Police said they finally deployed a canine after  Fischer refused several orders.

Fischer was charged with felony attempt to elude; criminal mischief II; and DUII.
