EUGENE, Ore. -- The second annual 5k on the Runway brought a little more than just runners to the tarmack of the Eugene Airport on Saturday. Organizers coordinated the inaugural Air Fair to take place alongside the hundreds of participants who jogged along the runways.

“To incorporate an Air Fair and encourage more of the aviation community to come out … we really wanted to created more of a family friendly atmosphere,” said Michelle Christensen, one of the 5k on the Runway organizers.

Local pilots volunteered to fly children around Eugene through the Young Eagles program using their own airplanes, hoping to encourage a love of aviation in kids like Gibsen and Logan Glender.

“Our mom is here running the race and we're going to do the young eagles program,” Giibsen said.

“Looking at the world from so high up, I never experienced that before,” said Joey Butterfield, a north Eugene Highschool Student.

Aside from the fun flights for future avaitors, families were able to enjoy some fresh air, food and activities that included a bouncy house, live music, car show and explore all kinds of aircraft at the air fair. All proceeds from today's events will go to children's charities in the area.
