One arrested after fire on porch of Eugene clinic
EUGENE, Ore. - Police took a man into custody Wednesday morning after a witness reported seeing the man set a fire on the porch of a downtown clinic.
The fire on the porch at White Bird Clinic, 341 12th Ave., did not spread to the rest of the building.
A witness followed a man from the scene to a nearby convenience store, where police took the man into custody.
The fire call came in at 6:27 a.m.
The porch did not appear damaged. There were several burned cardboard boxes and garbage spread across the porch, stairs, sidewalk and street.
Police at the scene said they don't know if the man arrested after Wednesday's fire was involved in any of the other suspicious fires set in trash bins and on porches around Eugene over the past year.

What a shame. The White Bird Clinic is the former house of a wonderful Eugene doctor. His name was Dr. Bartle and he was my aunt's father-in-law. He did many wonderful things for the people of Eugene and it's sad to see that his legacy is treated this way. My cousins lived next door and were the daughters of Mr. William Bartle, a prominent Eugene attorney. We used to play on swings in Dr. Bartle's basement. He suspended them from the beams down there for us.Â
