One lane on I-5 closed overnight after semi crash

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- One lane southbound lane of Interstate 5 was closed overnight and remained closed Thursday morning, while crews were cleaning up a resin spill after a semi truck crashed on Robert's Mountain.

According to officials, a semi truck hauling two tanks of industrial resin crashed at about milepost 115, when for an unknown reason, the rig drifted onto the median and turned over.

The driver was identified as R David Lee, 51, of Central Point.

After the truck tipped, officials say a 1997 Nissan Maxima driven by Hollie D. Malone, 24, of Myrtle Creek, sideswiped the semi.

OSP troopers say Malone was not injured, but Lee was taken to Mercy Medical Center with major head trauma, and later transferred to Sacred Heart at RiverBend in Springfield.

Authorities say the crews will be on site much of Thursday, and urge motorists to use caution while traveling in that area.
