Oregon teens take global warming to Oregon Supreme Court

If this young idiot had set down an actually tried to learn something she would have discovered the if ALL the carbon on earth was combined with Oxygen it would only use up 3% of the currently available oxygen, Oxygen that continues to outgas from the crust into the atmosphere, oxygen whose pressure will eventually destroy all human life on the planet. Her ignorant views of carbon will doom many children to starvation, she will personally be responsible for the gross malnutrition and starvation young children face because the atmosphere lacks sufficient carbon to produce the food necessary to sustain them, she is the epitome of an Ugly American.

It is indeed sad to see how children have been so thoroughly propagandized by our public school system.  As an astrophysicist, I have tried to interest the Oregon Science Teachers Association in improving their handling of 'Global Warming,' but they are thoroughly hostile toward real scientists who do not support the current hysteria.

 

Children need to be taught to think for themselves and not take everything they hear from adults at face value.  That's called 'critical thinking.'  It is essential for success later in life.

 

Perhaps Kelsey would consider what human activities are based primarily on 'authority and consensus' versus those that are based on 'logic and evidence.'   'Authority and consensus' are  important in politics, while 'logic and evidence' form the basis of science.  The two should not be confused.

 

In considering the hypothesis that we are warming this planet by burning fossil fuels, the appropriate question is "Where is the proof?"  Because we live on a planet with vast oceans and atmosphere that are never in complete equilibrium, climate variations such as we have seen recently are perfectly normal.  They are actually reminiscent of the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.  During that time our fossil fuel consumption actually went down as temperatures soared.  In contrast, over the last fifteen years, the global temperature has also been warm but not increased, despite an increase in fossil fuel usage.

 

The overall increase of about 0.8 degrees C over the 20th century coincided with a Grand Maximum of solar cycles.  My fellow astrophysicist, Dr. Willie Soon of Harvard, summarizes what we have seen very succinctly: "Its the Sun!"  We have lots of evidence he is correct.  And we now have considerable evidence from solar physicists like Livingston and Penn that the Sun is entering a much quieter phase like the Maunder Minimum of the 17th century.  That was a cold period.

I'm sure that Kelsey is a well-intentioned person.

 

As a physicist I can say that the most important thing I learned in my education, was the ability to be a critical thinker. Unfortunately, this is rarely emphasized anymore. Instead, the focus is on robotizing our young impressionable students into accepting such malarky as "consensus" views on science.

 

Kelsey, please look at EnergyPresentation.Info, and give this whole matter some careful, objective, thought. I know that you'll come to the right conclusions.

well you are obviously a product of public education.  you have been feed a lie. and dont know how to find the truth.  you wont find it the indoctrination of public schools or lame stream media.  open your eyes and read a book about geology.  Then learn how solar flares effect our climate.  two hundered years of burning fosil fuels has been extremely minor

Juliana you don't know squat. Climate change is a big lie. It is another excuse for democrats and third world countries to take our money. It is called climate change now instead of global warming. Because carbon causes cooling not warming. Al Gore did not know this when he invented the internet and this phony crisis. Juliana did you know one volcano erupting releases more "greenhouse" gases then mankind has his entire existence?  We contribute a whopping 5% of all the carbon in the atmosphere. Carbon the base of all life on earth.The number one cause of global warming? The sun . When I was your age the ice age was coming.

Sixteen years old.  Young lady you haven't seen anything or even experienced anything yet.  Wait until you have lived seven decades and seen changes from dry cell phones that required a short and a long ring, to telephones you pack around in your pocket.   From Cars that were really made out of steel, that are now made out of junk, from working all day for 4 or 5 dollars to a minimum wage of over 7 or 8 dollars an hour, gasoline from 15 cents a gallon to over 4 dollars, droughts right here in Oregon, and record rains at time,  a really bad storm in 1962, Called the Columbus Day storm, schools with teachers that really taught and made you work, and did not pass you if you did not deserve it.  You had to get at least 75 percent to pass a test.  We were taught history and actual happenings, not what somebody thought was going to happen so they could get rich on it.  55 Chevys and drive in movies, paper routes on bicycles at 4 in the morning, picking beans and strawberries to earn money for your school clothes.  Those were good times when people helped their neighbors and did not worry about "global warming" because the weather was alway changing.  So now here you are barely out of diapers, sweet 16, and suing someone.  What in the world have they done to you.  I feel so bad for you.  You need to experience life, study real history, and real things.  Question what you are being told, convince yourself with evidence, not what someone has told you to just believe.  Good luck.

I so sorry that these two young ladies have been indoctrinated in the GLO-BALL warming bunk. It would seem that no one ever taught them that this planet was warmer when the dinosaurs trans-versed this rock, that the Viking's farmed Greenland 1000 years ago. Now you can not farm Greenland at all. That huge globe in the sky is the major driver of climate and summer is warm.

 

Climatologists and meteorologists have known for centuries and what the current crop of so-called “climate scientists” and EPA administrators apparently never learned: that weather and climate are controlled by natural laws on an enormous scale that dwarfs human activity. Those laws engender forces and motions in our atmosphere and oceans that are beyond human control. Weather and climate existed long before humans appeared on Earth, and will continue to exist in the same way long after we are gone.

Predicting the doom of a 5 billion year old planet with just 100 years of data is kinda silly. But you go on with your law suits and all. I'm sure your teacher will give you extra credit. 

Nothing like keeping the courts clogged up with something that they are not willing to address yet and probibly never
