Parents fear teen runaway sold into sex slavery
CRESWELL, Ore. - Bedria Williams ran away from her home in Creswell on January 11, and her parents said they fear the 15-year-old has been sold into sex slavery.
“It’s terrifying to see the sex trafficking that’s goes on," said Bedria's mother Kim Williams on Thursday morning at her home in Creswell. "We have it here in Eugene, and Albany, and Salem, and to hear the stuff that happens in Sacramento--that's our biggest fear, that that’s what’s happing to her, and she can’t get home.”
The Lane County Sheriff's Office said Bedria Williams is listed as a runaway and that a detective has been assigned to the case.
Kim Williams said she believes her daughter took a bus to Portland and was later picked up by someone who may have taken her to Sacramento, California.
“But she apparently ran out of money once she got to Portland and met up with an ex con, and he had offered to have sex with her for money," said Williams. "It just makes me shudder to think.”
Bedria Williams, a freshman on the cross-country team at Creswell High School, was adopted from Ethiopia when she was 9 years old. She is 5-foot-2 and 124 pounds with brown eyes. She has a mole above the right side of her upper lip.
“Bedria, if you’re listening, please contact somebody and come home," said Williams as tears streamed down her face. "You’ve left a huge hole in our hearts. We love you very, very much.”
Pat Williams, Bedria's father, has traveled to Sacramento, where he is organizing a search party to hand out flyers. In addition, the family has started a Facebook page to help get the word out.
If you have seen her or know about her whereabouts, the Lane County Sheriff's Office is asking that you call them: (541) 682-4150. The Sacramento Sheriff's Office has also opened a runaway case on Bedria Williams: (916) 808-0650.
People in Sacramento that would like to help search for Bedria are asked to meet at the Riverlake Village Shopping Center at 7600 Greenhaven Dr. at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The 8 hour search will be followed by a candlelight vigil at the shopping center, honoring Bedria in the hopes she return home safely.

I am appauled at the scumbags making absurd comments about people they don't know. The family is awesome, and they rescued this girl from a third world country. Fancy Jackass and peaceof crap, you both suck at life! You know nothing about parenting or about this girl's family. Why don't you go upstairs from your basements and ask your mother about how difficult it can be raising kids. Your moms obviously didn't do a good job, and that's why at 30, you are still at home. You can be the most loving parents, but short of keeping a child locked up and away from people you cannot keep the freaks away. BTW, there is no runaway law in oregon so if a child decides to leave then you are pretty much s.o.l
@POSTALONE ---the younger generation/teens do like to migrate away from the farm or provincial communities.Seems they get bored to death and/or annoyed by the lack of anonymity and opportunity. That is unfortunate, since there are more strange creeps/freaks for the young/naive country mouse to encounter. Nature vs. nurture is a spectrum. And you are part of the problem, your reasoning, the reason why we grow addicts and alcoholics, children who are suicidal, promiscuous children, serial killers, abusers, etc.... Maybe before you cast stones you should read what is written, the slate is clean for anyone to write on and unless you as a parent want to or can control your child 24/7 they are going to be impressed by other views and thoughts that you may not believe in. Having raised 8 well adjusted kids and seeing what they went through in life I believe i may be more clued in than you.

Also, kids of ALL BACKGROUNDS run away, because teenagers THINK that they know everything, and that they are savvy, and that no matter how good their parents are, to the teenager, they still feel stifled, and rebel. That is natural. It DOES NOT mean her parents are terrible people.Â
Very true. From what history has shown 'authority' or parents & government is not about keeping you alive as much as it is about keeping you under their 'control'. Unfortunately the government see's this as a lifetime endeavor, a parent usually only til you're 18.

This has already been proven in longitudinal studies, particularly with identical twins seperated at birth.
The blank slate, nurture is everything is a total myth. The slate is not only far from blank it is also so ingrained with coding that some things can not be etched or sketched on to it, no matter what the nurture.

 @Postone Parenting is one of the hardest things I have ever done. Everyday there are more pits for kids to fall in.  Teenagers are hormonal creatures that can lose recognition that their parents love them.Â
I would NEVER let me teenage daughter go to Portland or anywhere by her self. That is asking for trouble!!!

The only thing that anyone can actually learn from this rather brief and uninformative article is that Bedria Williams was adopted from Ethiopia, lived in Creswell, is currently missing, and the Lane County Sheriff's Office believes that she is a runaway. Just because publishing news stories online is quick, easy, and cheap doesn't mean they must be incomplete or misleading. You need to do a better job KVAL.

That is sad, but she probably sold herself for drugs. There are many young ladies just like her in my neighborhood here in the Whiteaker in Eugene Oregon. The police must see these young girls and they don't ever do anything about them.
@Michael Michaels ---would you have the police round up all the suspicious looking young girls and send them to young ladies bootcamp? Or pester and scold them with lectures everytime they see them out and about being teenagers? I don't think the police have the time, and certainly not the right to abduct and menace them. @Michael Michaels: KVAL reporter Ty Steele does not mention in his very brief article that Bedria Williams uses or has used illegal drugs, or that there is any concrete reason to believe the Eugene Police Department is collectively incompetent or that they ignore runaways. Do you have additional information about Williams or the EPD that you would like to share?
