COOS BAY, Ore. -- An estimated 100-foot section of the Powers Highway (OR - 542) collapsed into the North Fork of the Coquille River Sunday morning, the Oregon Department of Transportation said.
ODOT said that the southbound lane collapsed and fell nearly 35 feet into the river.
The affected stretch of road is about halfway in between Highway 42 and the city of Powers, Ore.
Crews are directing traffic through the area near milepost 12 on the one usable lane.
Officials said that motorists in the area should expect brief delays when driving through that stretch of road.
Maintenance crews are cleaning up large amounts of debris from high water all along Highway 425 and Highway 101 in Coos County.
Motorists traveling on any roadway should drive with caution and watch for debris on the roadways.
ODOT said that they do not expect to release updates on the collapse until Monday.
