Passengers jump from burning boat

PORTLAND, Ore. – People had to jump to safety from a burning boat near Hayden Island on Friday.

The boat was fueling near I-5 at Hayden Island when an explosion happened, according to Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Michael Silva.

The passengers managed to jump in the water and make it safely ashore as their burning boat drifted away from the dock.

The boat was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, although they were able to quickly put out the fire, Silva said.

It’s not clear what set off the explosion.
