Shipwreck Excavation
In this July 18, 2012 photo, Sharla Luxton excavates a unit at the presumed Camp Castaway site on the North Spit in Coos Bay, Ore. Daniel Daggett and Kylie Sanders, background right, sift through sand for artifacts. Camp Castaway was the temporary home to about 35 dragoon soldiers marooned for about four months on the North Spit after their ship wrecked in January 1852. In 2009, archaeologists found the site of an ancient shipwreck. They began excavating the site last week to determine if it was in fact Camp Castaway. (AP Photo/The World, Benjamin Brayfield)
