Police: 3 arrested after SUV crashes fleeing Springfield officer

SPRINGFIELD, Ore - A driver doing 35 in a 20 mph zone sped away from police Monday night but crashed into a tree when the driver lost control.

Police arrested the driver and two of his passengers. A third passenger, who was under the age of 18, was not charged.

The incident started when police tried to pull over a Chevy Blazer SUV clocked doing 35 in the downtown 20 mph zone.

Police said the driver initially pulled over but then sped away.

With the officer in pursuit, the driver sped along Fourth and D streets until trying to turn onto 12th Street. Police said the driver lost control and crashed the SUV into a tree.

Police arrested the driver - Kevin Christ Gonzalez, 19, of Springfield - on charges eluding, marijuana delivery, possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, criminal mischief and reckless driving.

Police also arrested the passengers - Jesus Dario Moramichael and Victor Ramon Moramichael of Eugene - on drug charges.
