Police: Chase ends with suspect's car in reservoir

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Police tried to stop the 1991 Dodge Dynasty that Timothy James Caldwell was driving early Thursday night for expired tags at 42nd Street and Highway 126.
He pulled over, let a passenger out - and took off at high speed.
Police said Caldwell, 20, led officers on a high-speed chase down Jasper Road to the town of Lowell, then up North Boundary Road along - and finally into - Lookout Point Reservoir.
Caldwell lost control of the car and drove down a 100 foot embankment into the water.
The Dodge went under, and Caldwell got out through a window and swam to shore, where he was taken into custody.
Caldwell is jailed on charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude an officer. He also had a warrant out for his arrest related to charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The car is still in the reservoir. A county dive team planned to haul the submerged car out of the water.
