Police: DUII driver crashes into vacant credit union building

EUGENE, Ore. -- Police said a drunk driver ran into the old Oregonians Credit Union building in downtown Eugene early Saturday morning, almost hitting two people who were sleeping under an awning.

Eugene Police Spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said the driver, identified as Shayna Snyder, 25 of Springfield, was sent to the hospital with crash-related injuries.

An officer was driving near the crash scene just after 3 a.m. Saturday. The officer was around Broadway and Patterson Street when they reported seeing Snyder driving her car recklessly, heading toward the Ferry Street Bridge.

The officer said Snyder drove her Toyota 4-runner off Coburg Road at 8th Street, hopped the curb and ran into the vacant bank building.

McLaughlin said two transients were sleeping under the building's awning, nearly 10 feet away from where Snyder's car hit.

Police cited Snyder for driving under the influence and reckless endangering before she was taken to the hospital.

McLaughlin said police are still unsure how much damage the crash caused to the building.
