Police: DUII driver flips pickup, trailer - cats taken for safe keeping
MEDFORD, Ore. -- A California man was charged with DUII Friday afternoon after crashing his truck off of Interstate 5 about a half mile from the north Medford interchange, state police said.
Michael Griley, 52 of Escondido, CA, was driving his 2005 Nissan Titan pickup northbound on Interstate 5 with a 30-foot travel trailer in tow.
Just after noon Griley told police that he swerved to miss a black trash bag in the left lane near milepost 30.
Official said that the man lost control, causing both pickup and trailer rolled onto the passenger side.
The truck came to a stop in the grassy center median, partially blocking the left lane.
Michael and his 49-year-old wife Wendy were taken to Providence Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Animal control took the couple's two cats from the trailer for safekeeping, state police said.
Police cited Griley for driving under the influence of intoxicants. He is scheduled to appear in Jackson County Court for those charges.
The northbound lanes and one southbound lane were blocked for over an hour as crews cleared the truck and trailer from the road, police said.
The fact he was towing a 30 ft trailer with that type of truck. I have a 1/2ton silverado and i wouldnt even tow something that size with it.
Hope you like Jail
Pulling a 30 ft. trailer with a Nissan Titan should be a ticketed offense, along with being from California...then add being intoxicated? Take his Oregon welcome card away for 20 years...
Alcohol isn't it GREAT just another reason to ban it ....I KNOW IT WON'T WORK !! But it's nice to dream of a world with no BOOZE and you know it's true=)
@IAMHIGH Don't give up hope yet, our great government just wussed out in ending prohibition.  At least we knew where the mob was when they were bootlegging, but now they're running places like NYC.  If we end the war on drugs next, expect our multi-lingual signs to have Spanish at the top!
@IAMHIGHÂ It doesn't say he was drinking...DUII could mean he was high on other intoxicants! Usually when it is alcohol they tend to tell us what the blood alcohol level is.
@UsaidWHATÂ @IAMHIGHÂ Ok Apple to oranges ...Splitting hairs if you ask me!!
