EUGENE, Ore. - A driver in a stolen car hit a police cruiser and then drove into a city park as he tried to evade police early Wednesday morning, police said.

The driver and passenger ran from the car after crashing over an embankment in Skinner Butte Park, Eugene Police said.

Both suspects were taken in custody, police said.

The chase started on I-105 at Coburg Road at around 6 a.m. when an officer tried to pull over a possible stolen Toyota sedan.

No one was injured when the driver hit a police car, a spokeswoman said.

The chase continued into Skinner Butte Park before the car hit uneven ground and stopped.

Police scooped up one of the two suspects right away. The second was later located near the Valley River Center on the other side of the Willamette River from Skinner Butte Park.

Police said they took Joshua Jean Hammer, 20, of Grants Pass and Anthony Waine Teal, 23, into custody as part of the investigation.
