Police: Girl, 7, escaped attempted kidnapping
SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - A man grabbed a little girl by the arm Tuesday in what police are calling an attempted kidnapping.
The suspect ran away when the girl screamed. Police searched the area, to no avail.
"This is one of those things where someone took a pretty substantial step to come and actually grab the child and who knows what they were going to do," Sgt. David Lewis with the Springfield Police Department said.
The incident happened in the 3500 block of E Street around 4 p.m.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s with an average build.
He was last seen wearing a green shirt, tan shorts and a camouflage baseball cap. He was carrying a black duffle bag.
Police say they don't have any leads and they are looking for any additional witnesses.
There is absolutely no room in a civilized society for anyone that would try to abduct any child or another adult for that matter. The criminal justice system has to be fixed. We all need to be watchful for these individuals and do what is necessary to see them brought to justice. If we are persistent and do not become complacent we will win this one.
