VANCOUVER, Wash. - Police have arrested a homeowner accused of fatally shooting a prowler on Tuesday morning.
Sean H. Doucette was booked in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Vancouver police began investigating the shooting after the suspected shooter's wife called 911 at about 4 a.m. to report a prowler near her home, located near 150th Avenue and NE 33rd Street in Vancouver. The location is also near Evergreen High School.
A few minutes later, police said another man called 911 to say a shooting had taken place outside and that the prowler had died from his injuries. The man who called 911 wasn't the shooter, police said.
New details emerged late Tuesday afternoon about the suspected shooter. Doucette is a security guard with First Response Inc., and is licensed in Oregon to be an armed officer, said Dave Foglio, president of the company.
Doucette, who works in the patrol division, has been with First Response for several years. Foglio said he has a clean work record.
Doucette has his own weapon and carries it home, Foglio said.
As for the police investigation, the deceased prowler has not been identified; he was not wearing identification.
Police said Doucette cooperated with investigators and the Major Crimes Team is investigating.
A group of young people gathered near the location and some crossed crime tape onto the property only to be forced back by police officers.
Doucette does not have a criminal record in Washington and owns the home with Rachel Doucette, according to property tax records.
I have been in a really bad mood lately because my roommate (koolest roommate a guy could have in college town UO) keeps getting his car broken into. I have offered to buy a 9mm and sleep in his car trunk waiting for the nightly creeps trying to break in. My question is: Can I shoot the creep right after he has opened/smashed in the car door, because the car happens to be my temporary dwelling/shelter?
gunnuts are worthless. i posted the above 10 hours ago and have not gotten a response, because they either don't know or they don't like me.
I suffer no pain of rejection, 'cause I am still convinced that they just shoot first and ask questions later.
At least I try to get info before launching a lead projectile at someone. how 'bout your cowardly selves? GUN NUTZ?
@peace Don't give into the easy way out.  The gun is for cowards (did you see how many machine guns were used to take down one measly renegade LAPD).  Just get a bat and hammer some nails into it and you're good to go.
No Jury in the world would convict this guy of anything. They will probably give him a medal!
@Postone ---Highly Doubtful GUNNUT! He will probably spend a lot on lawyer fees, court time, and then have to worry about a relative/ friend of the deceased tracking him or members of his family for revenge. GUNNUT!
NUMBNUTZ are everywhere. I wan't to listen to them, but I think I kaun't here them from an ear infuction.
"Should have just buried him in the back yard." So you're going to shoot and kill and bury a guy in your backyard in a neighborhood, and you think no one will ever know? Seriously?
Â
Yeah, double down on being stupid. That would add another 10 years or so to your prison time.  The fantasy world of trigger happy gun huggers.Â
Â
Here's a thought. Let's wait and see what really happened.
Well now I know not to call the cops and just bury the punk out back or maybe I'll have a bonfire right on top of his dead corps
"Homeowner arrested for taking a dump"
Â
My name is bald odinson and i approve of this message.
Which is why we need a strong Castle Doctrine.Â
I do not understand why he was arrested, protecting his own property....please explain.
@Fennforests Looking at the Washington RCW's and the charge of Murder II, I'd say the police don't believe he was defending himself or another from one of the felonies enumerated in RCW 9A.16.050 or RCW 9A.16.020 regarding justifiable homicide and self defense. Basically, Washington law, similar to Oregon's, doesn't let you kill a simple trespasser.Â
@hewhoo SImple? I think that a nice guard dog would do the trick...
 @FennforestsÂ
Â
you can't shoot people "near your home".
Â
You should stay away from guns unless you want to go to prison as well.Â
Â
Its just not good enough, you have no idea why you shot a person, near your home, you just did.Â
Â
How would you like to get shot under those terms. Enjoy the prison sentence. Â
@Jason Marks @Fennforests The onlmistake was calling the police in the first place, should have planted him in the garden
I really doubt the DA will want to prosecute. The guy needs to keep his mouth closed ( I bet he knows that, he was wearing military uniform in the pic) He must have had a good reason. Good luck Mr.
Always invite the prowler inside before shooting...Or leave a plate of meth they'll come a running then game on!!
@IAMHIGH ---entrapping and baiting the criminal, but I still like it! Just remove the bait before the donnut bandits arrive.
This article contained no useful information as to why they arrested the home owner other than he shot a prowler.Â
Lesson learned... dont call 911.
Like the misleading headline. Why the word homeowner instead of security guard arrested?
@givupongod Because he was at home, the home he owns, hence the term "home owner". I suppose if he was on the clock they would have used the term security guard.
@RelaxThereIsNoGod ---most security guards are ornamental and carry no live rounds (the world over) . They are merely scarecrows to deter crime. Those allowed to shoot are certified to shoot after proper training. Most prowlers are often a friend or relative (even a skeleton in the closet) that does not deserve lead. Salt gun maybe, but not lead or buckshot. And certainly not leathal force. GUNNUTZ!

@givupongod @RelaxThereIsNoGod This is all very interesting...it would be even more interesting if the shooting had occurred in Oregon instead of Washington. Do you want to download the applicable WASHINGTON law for our edification?
@hewhoo @givupongod ---yes do, in case the dead person was a registered citizen of Oregon State or any other state or Nation. That matters quite a bit. GUNNUTZ!.
 @hewhoo  @givupongod  @RelaxThereIsNoGod Kudos to u hewhoo!
@RelaxThereIsNoGod well now. your just full of information thank you!. its one less prowler society has to worry about!
