SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Police arrested a man accused of breaking around 20 windows out of a house off Main St. Saturday afternoon.
The man is suspected to have broken other things around the house and thrown food from the refrigerator onto the kitchen floor, police said.
Steven Wilkinson, a 42-year-old homeless man, was booked into the Lane County jail on multiple charges, including burglary and criminal mischief.
Officers were called out to the 100 block of S. 14th Street at around 2:15 p.m. after a man reported coming home to find a bunch of broken windows in his house, Springfield Police Sgt. Richard Charboneau said.
Officials said the family had just purchased the house five days before.
As he was on the phone with police, the resident told officers that he saw Wilkinson run from the back of the house. Officers took Wilkinson into custody after a short chase, police said. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail on charges of burglary I, criminal mischief I, menacing and resisting arrest.
Investigators believe that Wilkinson threw a table through the front window, broke the kitchen table, tore a door off a kitchen shelf, threw food out of the refrigerator, shattered around 20 windows and damaged other items, police officials said.
