Police: RV driver falls asleep, hits utility pole

SUTHERLIN, Ore. - A woman fell asleep behind the wheel of an RV early Thursday morning, crashing into a utility pole and taking out 250 feet of cattle fence, Sutherlin Police said.

The crash trapped the 63-year-old driver behind the steering wheel. Her husband, who was asleep in the back, told first responders that he couldn't move.

Medics pulled both victims from the wreckage and took them to Mercy Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Police said the Winston couple were on their way home from Portland when the driver fell asleep around 1 a.m.
