Police: Springfield driver fled trooper at 120 mph

ALBANY, Ore. - An 18-year-old Springfield man led police on a 120 mph chase on Interstate 5 before a spike strip punctured one of the fleeing car's tires, Oregon State Police said.
State police arrested Angel Gamaliel Gallo on charges of Felony Attempt to Elude in a Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Recklessly Endangering Another Person. He was also cited for Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday when a state trooper following up on a complaint spotted a 2011 VW Golf with California plates southbound on I-5 near Albany.
When the trooper tried to stop the car, the Golf sped off at 120 mph.
The chase lasted 13 miles until the Golf ran over a spike strip, deflating a tire.
Troopers arrested Gallo.
An 18-year-old passenger was not cited. A trooper gave him a ride home to Eugene.
Waiting for his mother to chime in and blame "the system" for failing her 'little Angel.' Â
Of course those cowboys (police) would never think of the public themselves being the safety minded individuals they are. Of course not, they (police) will chase this guy and anyone else until he crashes into someones home, some other vehicle, or a person, or all three.Â
There is no valid reason to chase someone at breakneck speeds and endangering the public unless the person committed a very serious felony like shooting a bunch of kids or something like that.
Little boys with guns and badges who never grew up....
@Postone
What an uneducated moron! ;)
A 13 mile chase at 120 MPH is about 6 minutes...... Not much time. Not that many run from the police. And 6 minutes is hardly enough time to make the decision not to continue pursuit. that stretch of I-5 is completely straight. Not too dangerous to be in a pursuit.  I agree with PleaseBeSmart.  Remove the incentive to stop, and they won't stop.  They set up spike strips to stop him rather quickly. He will deserve what he gets. Sounds like this liitle wanna-be hood was being the cowboy.....
@Postone If you know police aren't going to chase you, what exactly is the incentive to pull over? How do the police know exactly what they've done and why they're running until they pull them over? Isn't it foreseeable that having a policy not to chase cars could lead to more people speeding away? Wouldn't legalizing drugs lead to less people running? Isn't it possible that someone is fleeing because of something major, like a kidnap victim in the trunk? And believe it or not, plenty of police only want to help.
PleaseBeSmart:Â Maybe one of your family members will the next person to be killed? I wonder how you will feel about the police chasing people at breakneck speeds then?
@PleaseBeSmart  Anyone can be a moron, that isn't hard...
@Postone It's absurd that you think I would change my mind. Due to a similar sort of situation, I know for a fact I would not.Â
People can die either way. It can just as easily be argued that not chasing them would encourage more of this, that there is zero incentive to pull over if you're kidnapping someone, etc. At least going after them is trying to do something about it.
If I can find a VW Golf that goes 120 mph on a flat, I am buying it.
Anytime a suspect attempts to ellude...certainly to the point this moron did, they should be severely beaten before taken into custody and booked. I don't mean punch and kicked a couple of times...I'm talking about needing medical attention...THEN we can book him. The penalties for crimes like this are just too lax.
@flor3nc3Yeah thats right, because this guy commits a crime he should (in your fair minded opinion) have his civil rights denied! What an uneducated moron!
@Postone
Oh...why thank you for the label. I see you've added your own version of education to the converstation...good for you.
Too bad they didn't shoot him...just another punk putting everyone in danger so yeah shoot him!!!!!
3 dot tat, go figure.Â
@godless anarchist From what I've read, it's not always a gang related tattoo. It's often just a symbol of ethnic pride with no ill intent. Granted, this particular punk did appear to be up to no good. Also, the three dots in that formation mean "Therefore" in math terms. Perhaps he's a math geek. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Nah...  Just another "wanna-Be" trying to look tough. Doesn't look too tough in the photo now....  Goodbye license..... Â
@JJ97477 Not likely that taking his license will deter this moron from driving and committing crimes.
George Zimmerman in a VW golf doing 120 MPH??
