VANCOUVER, Wash. – Police arrested a Vancouver man who they said had a stolen puppy that belonged to an Oregon City couple.
Jim and Pat Steele met a man at the Clackamas Town Center Friday after they arranged to sell the English Bulldog puppy through Jim Steele’s business, according to Clackamas County Sgt. Adam Phillips.
The man pointed a handgun at the couple and stole one of their puppies after they refused to give him their wallets, watches and cell phones, Phillips said.
"He said 'this is for real. I want your wallet, your wife's purse, both of your cell phones and both puppies, and don't think I won't use the gun. I'm not afraid to kill you," said Pat Steele.
The Steeles were not hurt during the robbery.
Vancouver police got a tip that led them to an apartment at 4710 Plomondon Street in Vancouver. A SWAT team was called in Sunday morning to help serve a search warrant. Police said they believed the suspect may have had weapons.
Police said Jajuane Deshaen Etheridge was taken into custody after a three hour standoff. The puppy, named Harpo, was found unharmed and returned to the Steeles.
"He's kind of clingy, and I don't care how long he clings," said Pat Steele.
Pat Steele told KATU News that Harpo was found in a closed suitcase.
Etheridge faces one count of possession of stolen property. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
What kind of a person puts a puppy in a suitcase?! =( Horrible. I'm so glad it's safe and back to the rightful owners. If I had 2 grand to spare I'd give that pup a home with our family!
BANG....
The guy had to turn to a life of crime; never could spell his name correctly. "Jajuane Deshaen"????Â
Glad the pup is alright. Now this guy needs to spend a long time in prison.
Now squeeze him by the 'nads until he says who the other perp is! Â Poor doggie all shut up in a suitcase...glad they found him and he is all right!
