EUGENE, Ore. - Police now believe a man found injured on a West Eugene road who later died was run over by a vehicle.
Eugene Police said the injuries to Charles Lewis Irwin, 33, are consistent with a motor vehicle running over him.
Irwin was found Wednesday, July 30, around 11 p.m.
Irwin was found just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on S. Danebo Avenue near W. 11th Avenue near a driveway.
A bicycle was found nearby. There was not substantial damage to the bicycle, police said.
There were no other people or vehicles in the area.
Medics rushed Irwin to the hospital, but he died from his injuries, police said.
Police said the help of witnesses will be very important in the case.
Police ask anyone who saw a man on a bike in the Danebo/W. 11th area Thursday night, either upright or on the road, to contact Officer Scott Dillon at (541) 682-5470.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen Irwin elsewhere or knew him.
Irwin is white, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, with very short almost shaved brown hair and green eyes.
He was wearing shorts or cut-offs, grey short sleeve shirt and a black baseball cap. He was wearing a full black backpack.
He was riding a blue BMX-style bike.
