Police: Wife tries to kill off-duty cop husband with truck

SALEM, Ore. - An off-duty police officer is in critical condition after his wife hit him with a pickup truck early Monday morning, Oregon State Police said.
Kenneth M. Nunez, 48, is at Salem Hospital after being hit by a Ford F-150 driven by his wife, 47-year-old Shirley Teresa Nunez, state police said.
The victim was walking to his motorcycle parked in front of his home around 1:19 a.m. when the truck hit him, police said.
Minutes earlier, Salem police responded to a report that Shirley Nunez entered a home through a sliding glass door and pointed a gun at a woman she suspected was having a relationship with Kenneth Nunez, police said.
Shirley Nunez was initially transported to Salem Hospital for a medical evaluation before OSP detectives arrested her and lodged her at the Marion County Jail on charges of:
- Attempted Murder
- Assault in the First Degree
- Burglary in the First Degree
- Menacing
- Pointing a Firearm at Another Person
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of Keizer Police Department, Salem Police Department and Marion County District Attorney's Office.
Nunez is a patrol officer with the Salem Police Department. He joined the department in 2005.
My kind of woman, spirited enough, kind of cute, I wonder how high her bail is?
@Fancy Jack ---they're so pretty when they are angry.
That lady should be in a nut house cause she is a crazy psycho Bi@#$.......!!!!!
@Scott!!!---I don't think her middle name stands for Mother Teresa, that's for sure.
maybe you should have kept it your pants there guy. You totally got what you deserved. She will too, prob prison time, congrats on ruining two lives.Â
@kate Simpson ---"It all depends on what the definition of 'is' is"---Bill Clinton
@kate Simpson Why is he to blame for ruining two lives? I, in NO WAY, agree with adultery, but how does that action give her the right to harm anybody? She is responsible for her own criminal actions, just as he is responsible for his (alleged?) affair.
Seems like the local law enforcement has been having a terrible December. Crimes of passion, patrol car smashed by a drunk driver, and one police couple barely surviving a hit and run while on vacation. Marital problems are a common hazard of a cop's life on top of the obvious hazards. For Christmas, I will pray to the Patron Saint of Police Officers and Soldiers. If there isn't one just for police officers, there should be. I might be able to handle a tour of combat with a dear john letter. But, I could not handle a life-time career as a cop. Wishing our finest can salvage some peace during the holidays. But, I fear that is not likely.
@peace There are no policemen in heaven, the two are mutually exclusive.
@Fancy Jack ---please don't tell me that only the crooks go to heavenÂ
If he was cheating on her he may not be happy right now. ok he isnt happy right now at all.
Play you pay....
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
@godless anarchist Heaven has no policemen
@Fancy Jack ---but they do have policewomen!
@peace I do not know enough Policewomen to pass judgement
Should have just gotten a divorce! Now you get to see what prison is like!
@UsaidWHAT Some people really have a problem in dealing with rejection...she could have had much more success in making his life miserable with the divorce. Half the house, half the car(s) half of his PERS. Probably wouldn't have had enough money left to take his supposed girlfriend to Mickey D's.
@hewhoo---I don't think she will be eligible for alimony even if infidelity is proven. But, then again, who knows? In Monopoly, the jail bird player can still collect rent. And, isn't that prosecuted pervert from Penn St. insisting on receiving his fat pension while in jail? Â
@Cynthia Nordstrom---What is your point? He also mentioned nothing specific about her access to survivor benefits. Does not mean I did not fully support all that he did mention. My avatar says I pressed "Like". Was also very suspicious about what the incarcerated can and can not collect, given all the shameful loopholes in our court system. I have seen felons rack up 1000s of food stamp $ (ie. Oregon Trail ebtEDGE card) while tax payers are feeding them in jail.Â
@peace he said nothing about alimony.  She would have right to alot as his wife, just as hewhoo stated.
