Police: Woman, 77, using walker in crosswalk hit by car
Police said bright sunlight got in the eyes of the driver as the woman, 80, crossed the street using a walker.

EUGENE, Ore. - An 77-year-old woman with a walker got hit by a car as she tried to cross Goodpasture Island Road in a crosswalk on Wednesday morning, Eugene Police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Police said bright sunlight in the eyes of the 29-year-old driver's eyes at sunrise likely contributed to the crash.

Officers declined to release the names of the people involved, saying no citations are likely against either party.

"When you're a pedestrian, it's you against a 4,000 pound car," Sgt. Jim Ball said. "It's something to think about is your surroundings and what's happening when you're in the crosswalk. Not everyone sees you."

The response to the crash had traffic on Goodpasture Island Road near Delta Ponds down to one lane with a flagger until at least 9 a.m.
