Police close missing persons case after locating 4th athlete

EUGENE, Ore. – Police located the fourth Ethiopian track athlete reported missing over the weekend from the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene Tuesday evening in Federal Way, Wash.

Zeyituna Mohammed, 18, was contacted at the residence of an acquaintance by Federal Way Police at the request of the University of Oregon Police Department.

UOPD had been investigating a missing persons case since late last Friday.

Two Ethiopian track team coaches reported around 11 p.m. on July 25 that four athletes had not checked in at their UO residence hall.

The four athletes reportedly had left the area by choice with an acquaintance, but police needed to positively confirm the safety of the athletes.

Three of the athletes were located safe in Beaverton on Monday afternoon: Amanuel Abebe Atibeha, 17; Dureti Edao, 18; and Meaza Kebede, 18.

The missing persons case for the 4 athletes is now closed.
