Police return Disco Trike to owner
PORTLAND, Ore. – The famous “Disco Trike,” which became the symbol of a recent clash between protesters and police in Portland, has been returned to its owner by police.
Tricycle owner Dan Kaufman told KATU's Meghan Kalkstein Tuesday that his trike was returned to him, along with his video and audio equipment.
Police impounded the adult-sized tricycle last week and said they were holding it as evidence.
“The Disco Trike was born free. It needs to live free,” said Kaufman.
The tricycle has video and sound equipment mounted on it. Kaufman was video-taping a protest when police took it, along with his video camera.
Fans started a campaign to free the Disco Trike and threatened a bike swarm if it was not returned to Kaufman.
Kaufman said he plans to file a complaint with police about how the situation was handled, but he will also file a letter to the police Sgt. who helped return his belongings.
