Police seize loaded AR-15 from felon on probation for gun crime
EUGENE, Ore. - Police seized an AR-15 assault rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine and two other firearms from a felon out on probation for a gun crime after the man threatened a local business, police said.
Scott Alan Gorman, 45, of Eugene was arrested on a probation violation and on three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The investigation started when a local adult care facility contacted police about Gorman. They said he had threatened the facility over his "displeasure with services being provided to a family member," police said.
Gorman's probation officer visited where Gorman lives. Gorman is currently on probation for unlawful use of a weapon.
After talking to other people who live there, the officer became convinced that Gorman had guns in the home.
Two Eugene police detectives responded to the home and talked to Gorman, gaining his consent to retrieve the guns, police said.
Officers found the AR-15 set to "fire" with a loaded 30-round magazine, plus four additional loaded 30-round magazines for the assault rifle; as well as two other firearms.
Investigators are trying to determine how Gorman was able to purchase the AR-15 assault rifle. If you have any useful information regarding this case, police ask you to contact Detective Chris White at (541) 682-5376.
Police declined to name the care facility that called police about Gorman.
So, what is the body count?, Zero. This is what happens when cowards fear inanimate objects, the ammo is military, so is not designed to kill, when you run into a 165 grain spitzer boattail fired from the 30 06 at 2800 feet per second, you will experience a cartridge designed to kill, the 5.56 with its 55 grain flat base moves at 3000 feet per second but has no mass and shed velocity rapidly and the projectile is designed to wound, no expansion, the projectile stays in one piece and penetrates through the body transferring very little energy to the target. they want to outlaw these nonlethal weapons because of their appearance and replace them with firearms that are absolutely lethal.  Â
@Fancy Jack "Nonlethal weapons"??  Don't tell that to the families in Newtown.  What dimension do you live in?  Or are you purposely misleading people to protect your gun fetish?
Â
Yeah, this ammo penetrates better, but a hole through the body can still kill, in case you haven't noticed, and these "penetrate" even ballistic vests, too.
@Baldr Odinson Ode to Odinson by Fancy Jack  Shattered, shattered, my brains been battered , spattered all over the wall, where crimson threads of the common dead, run down the school room halls, where Godless men try to amend the demons they entice, with pseudo tears they prey on fears, hypocrisy is their vice. They exploit the dead to suit their need, this tradegy they cannot waste. The masses are led to thoughtless deed, with purposed malicious haste, and when its done, you have lost your gun, now bow before the state, with freedoms lost at trivial cost, we suffer our ignorant fate. We killed 16 million children last year, in the United States and abroad for our own decadence, why is 20 dead in Newtown worth mentioning?
@Baldr Odinson @Fancy Jack When I was a young man, I worked for the infantry school at Ft. Benning, I was deployed all over the United states to test weapons for the infantry, the 5.56 cartridge was developed to be nonlethal but within the confines of the Geneva Convention, we determined that a badly wounded man took more men out of the combat theater and used up a tremendous amount of resources, the program was so effective, that North Vietnam took to shooting their wounded in the field as they could not care for them. A long time ago a young soldier called fire on a large building that had a Machine gun position in a corner of the building, he had a battery of 105s, he leveled the building, it was a school, there is a sound that a mother makes when she thinks her child has just been killed, they make a completely different sound when they actually find a piece of their child, you did not care then, and I do not care now.Â
@Baldr Odinson @Fancy Jack I think he meant less lethal which is true.

@Stooge Newton Why is it important to know how he got the gun?
@Stooge Newton   They are not saying how he got it, because they do not know.
sell the weapons to keep the dumb shits in jail ...or just shoot them and save the tax payers lots of money=))
@IAMHIGH Sounds like you want us to become North Korea. And for the record, an emoticon doesn't equal punctuation.
No, just want to keep all the knuckleheads locked up ! Let me guess you like them out there ripping all us good folks off right? And Relax punctuation Ain't everything....=)
They should use the EMX money to use for more jails...
Another loser let out of jail ...probably will be let out again...
With all the budgeting issues EPD has been dealing with lately, I suggest they auction off the rifle as those of its class have been staggeringly increasing in value as of late. Â I'm quite certain locals would be interested.
I'm suprised the news didn't glorify that its a 'Bushmaster'. You can see the little snake in the picture. Although they did call it a "assault rifle" when it isn't. It's a semi auto sporting rifle.
Â
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifle
"An assault rifle is a selective fire (selectable among either fully automatic, burst-capable, or, sometimes, semi-automatic modes of operation)"
Â
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-automatic_rifle
"A semi-automatic rifle is a type of rifle that fires a single bullet each time the trigger is pulled"

Btw baldr odinson. your idea that you should stop private sales also is an attempt of stopping family members from passing on heirlooms to their children & grandchildren. Family should always do this with any item without further infringement such as a 'background check', especially when that item is a protected right of every American.
@Shofoeshore This guy is the perfect example of why gun control advocates are wrong. He is a crook, and crooks either steal guns or get guns from other crooks who steal them. Gun control will only limit the guns to the people who would use them legally, it would have no effect whatsoever on the crooks other than make them more bold. Why is this so hard to understand?
@souptonuts  @Shofoeshore Compare the numbers:  Around 40% of guns used in crimes are purchased in private transfers.  Only around 10% of guns used in crimes were stolen.  Around 10% come from a fence/black market.  Source of data: http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/ffo98.pdf
@Shofoeshore Not true. Exemptions will likely be made for family and antique transfers.  And, I should add, a background check will only stop a transfer if the receiver is blocked by the NICS background check system (felons, mentally ill, domestic abusers, warrants for arrest).  I'd rather those types didn't get a gun, even if they are family.  Don't you agree?  Thus, there's no infringement on 2A rights.
The Infringement you suggest is akin to taking a persons voice and claiming they do not have a right to speak unless they first pass a background check.
What i said went over your head. A background check is not allowed to be forced (this means free choice is more important than you wanting to force something upon someone).  If family members want to transfer to other family members then they can without any infringement such as a background check. This is not a sale. Private sales in the State of Oregon are this way because it is also considered an infringement. Private individuals can not be forced to submit to a background check for a transfer, when it is a tool imperative to the right it pertains to. Suggesting you would infringe upon the rights of another by limiting that right in any way is no different than you suggesting that you want to do harm by any other crime to another. Except when you want to go against the rights of any American its seen by any real American as the worse crime there is. And we all know what the worse punishment is, so you're either really handicapped in the competency department for rational thought, or you are very apathetic to other peoples rights. Either way I can't take you seriously.
Â
Well, gee, how could he possibly be able to buy it? Because, in Oregon and most other states, you don't need a background check, ID, or answer any questions at all to purchase firearms in a private sale. Â Some 40% of guns used in crimes are transferred in this manner. Â We need mandatory background checks for ALL gun sales. Â
@Baldr Odinson Could I interest you in a video that details how to build a lower receiver for the AR15/16, any home shop can make one and there is a plethora of material that they can be made from, available to any patriot anywhere in the USA. You can even put your own serial number on the thing, 0001.
@Baldr Odinson How about the weapon sales on the black market? I think background checks should be required here too!
@11bravo  @Baldr Requiring background checks will force convicted felons to use a knowing accomplice, which will drive up prices and make it harder for criminals to purchase the guns.
@11bravo Just a little bit different, isn't it?  It's hard to grow/cook your own firearms and ammo, in case you haven't noticed.
Yep, kinda like street drugs, since the "War on drugs" the prices are so high nobody can afford to buy them....hehe Â
@Baldr Odinson  @11bravo Yeah, because it's sooooo hard to purchase illegal items.
