Police shock man with Taser in grocery store

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- An officer had to use a Taser to subdue a suspect holding an open beer in the grocery section of Fred Meyer Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A little after 2 p.m., an officer was called to the area for a man acting inappropriately in front of people at the Roseburg skate park next to the store.

Roseburg police said the man was harassing children and was reported to have blood on his face.

Police reported the description of the man to loss prevention at Fred Meyer, and they later flagged down the officer to tell him that the suspect was in the beer aisle of the store.

An officer found Jose Ramon Garcia, 37, in the store. Garcia had allegedly opened a can of beer in the store.

Garcia refused to comply with the officers commands, so the officer used a Taser to subdue him, police said.

Garcia was transported to the Douglas County Jail and charged by police with resisting arrest and third degree theft.

His bail was set at $7,500.
