Public invited to check out Eugene RC's Big Bird Fun Fly
EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene RC Aeronauts invite the public to come watch the annual Big Bird Fun Fly event, featuring remote-controlled airplanes that fly at over 100 mph on wingspans bigger than most people are tall.
The event is Saturday, July 14, starting at 9 a.m. at the aeronauts airfield a few miles north of the Eugene Airport. The event will continue until at least 4 p.m. or possibly 6 p.m., depending on conditions.
"Our sport is very family friendly and for all ages," said Mike Winklepleck, a member of the Eugene RC club. "We are working with the local Cub and Boy scouts teaching the fundamentals of flight. We also have several veterans and active duty military members. We offer a free membership to any active duty military for any branch."
Winklepleck suggested folks to check out the Fun Fly on their way to or from the Oregon Country Fair on Saturday.
The plans have wingspans of at least 80 inches and perform aerial acrobatics at speeds close to or exceeding 100 mph.
