GRESHAM, Ore. – The man accused of murdering Whitney Heichel was a member of her church.
Jonathan Holt and Whitney Heichel were members of the same Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Gresham, ABC News confirmed.
Holt and Heichel also lived in the same Gresham apartment complex, where Holt lived with his wife.
Holt was moved to the Clackamas County Jail Sunday. He is expected to appear by video in court Monday to face aggravated murder charges.
His parents did not answer the door at their Northeast Portland home Sunday. Their neighbor, Vincent Wilson, said he’s known Holt since he was seven years old.
Wilson said he noticed Holt visiting his parents a week ago.
“Something snapped or something,” Wilson said. "If it’s true, it’s like something that nobody expects of anybody.
Holt grew up in East Portland and attended school in the Parkrose School District. He was married in 2010, KATU News learned. His wife’s Facebook page was taken down shortly after Holt’s arrest.
“I feel for the girl and her family and everything,” Wilson said. “It’s a loss for everybody.”
Holt was transferred from Multnomah County to Clackamas County on Sunday. The case will be prosecuted in the county where the murder took place, police said.
"His parents did not answer the door at their Northeast Portland home Sunday."  The media never ceases to amaze me.  If you just found out that you were the parent of something that is alleged to have committed such a non human act, would you answer your door?
@souptonuts Yes. I would want to distance myself as far away from that monster as I could, and I would want to let the victims family know that I supported them. I wouldn't sit and hide behind my door.
How do you know they haven't reached out to the victims family? Just because it wasn't done in the public view doesn't mean they haven't. I don't blame them for not answering the door to the media one bit.
@Dexter Morgan  @souptonuts I could see both sides of this. I can't imagine that feeling to find out your own flesh and blood is such a monster. My guess of to one possibility of their silence is... what if it's not completely true? The guy hasn't said a whole lot about the circumstances. What if there's WAY more to the story that comes to light and it's an accident somehow... Obviously that's a stretch, but as his parents, they might want to make sure before they completely disown him - thus staying quiet until they know. Â
