Rescuers work for 2 hours to free driver from wreckage

CHILOQUIN, Ore. - Emergency crews worked for 2 hours to free a Madras man from the wrecakge of his pickup after he lost control on an icy section of road and hit a tree Monday.

Eulogio Vidales-Torres, 65, was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Klamath Falls. Police said Vidales-Torres is expected to survive his injuries.

He was southbound on Highway 97 when he lost control of his Toyota pickup around 8 a.m. The pickup went off the road and rolled up an embankment, crashing through a road sign and traveling another 50 feet before coming to rest upsidedown against a tree.

Chiloquin-area emergency responders, Klamath Falls Fire District #1 and two Oregon State Police troopers labored for 2 hours to free him from the wreckage. He was then taken by Emergency Airlift helicopter to Sky Lakes Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Vidales-Torres was using safety restraints.
