Sheriff announces retirement of drug detection K-9
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- Douglas County is losing a valuable member of it's team.
After eight years service to the citizens of Douglas County, the Sheriff's office is announcing announce the retirement of their narcotics detection K-9, Kilo.
Kilo began serving in March 2005 with his handler, Sgt. Tim Huckins.
The following is what DCSO had to say about Kilo:
This K-9 team exemplified the Sheriff's Office mission statement of providing for the peace and security of the citizens and visitors to our county.
Kilo has been an asset to the citizens of Douglas County. During his career, Kilo detected narcotics, located contraband in the jail facility, helped find missing people and tracked suspects. Sgt. Huckins and Kilo also participated in many community policing activities around the county. Kilo loved to visit school children and the community may recall even meeting Kilo at a the fair, a family safety event or at a presentation for a community group.
Kilo will enjoy his retirement with the Huckins family.
Does he get PERS? What about medical insurance? If not, I think more canines should be utilized. They are hard working, loyal and trustworthy. I love the K-9's.
How many kilos did he find during his career?
He'll probably just end up being a security guard at the mall.Â
