Roseburg teen killed in Saturday night crash
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- An 18-year-old Roseburg teen was killed in a car accident Saturday night on Happy Valley Road, that also injured three other passengers.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported crash in the 4700 block of Happy Valley Road at about 11:20 p.m.
Deputies say a Kia SUV being driven by Kaylyn Oelrich, 18, had left and then re-entered the roadway.
Officials say Oelrich tried to regain control of the vehicle, but was unable to. Deputies say the vehicle then rolled over.
During the rollover, authorities say Oelrich was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other passengers were injured in the crash. Hector Mandera, 18, Jose Garcia, 18, and a 14-year-old Roseburg boy were all taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Mandera was later taken to Sacred Heart at RiverBend in Springfield, where their website has his current condition listed as 'serious.'
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Officials say speed was not a factor in the crash.
So tragic. Why I as a parent, our parents, our parents' parents always worried about teens out and about on Saturday night, just enjoying their youth. We were all lucky just to make it out of our childhood. Why God? Why can't we all be that lucky? Nothing but prayers and tears for Ms. Oelrich and her family. And, prayers for a the fastest possible full recovery for her friends. I am sure she is praying for them as much as all of us.
i hope that everyone makes it out okay
To the friends and family of Miss Oelrich: I am so sorry for your loss, especially at this time of year. If you have faith, hang on to that and think of Kaylyn as being needed and in a better place. To the friends and family of Mr Mandera: I am sending all of the positive vibes that I can that Hector will pull through quickly and you will have him whole and with you for the holidays.
Â
And, last but never least, to Mr Mandera, Mr Garcia, the other boy, and their friends and family: I hope that you are able to move past this tragedy. Enjoy your friends and family and be happy with your life. I am so sorry for your loss and the tragedy that you went through.
