Roseburg woman, 29, collapses and dies, stranding 5 kids in Texas

DALLAS, Tx. — Five children traveling across the country are in the custody of authorities after their mother died.

The mother was identified as Felicia Hayles of Roseburg, Ore.

The mother and her children were waiting in line early Friday at the Greyhound bus station in downtown Dallas. The family was traveling from Mississippi to Oregon.

Police spokeswoman Ashaki Hardeman said the 29-year-old woman was taken Thursday to Baylor University Medical Center, where she died. A report from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's office said that Hayles died from blood clots due to obesity.

The children stayed with Greyhound officials until police officers took them to Child Protective Services.

Greyhound offered to take the children to Oregon for free.
