EUGENE, Ore. - A convicted sex offender who twice was the subject of community warnings when he failed to comply with his probation now faces charges accusing him of raping a woman Wednesday morning in a field behind some businesses off Coburg Road.

Police spotted Michael Allen Eastman, 27, in some blackberry bushes just before midnight Wednesday near Sorrel Way City Park, not far from where a woman said she was raped in a field early Wednesday morning.

A police dog helped take Eastman into custody.

He faces charges of rape and kidnapping.

In both 2010 and 2011, Eastman was the subject of community notices when he failed to comply with the terms of his probation.

Eastman was on Parole for Attempted Sex Abuse I and Burglary I in late September 2010 when he failed to show up at his home and missed an appointment with his parole officer. Oregon State Police took him into custody two months later.

Public safety officials called Eastman an "untreated sex offender with severe mental health issues" when the lost track of him when he failed to report to his parole officer Feb. 18, 2011. Police located him in March 2011, days after notifying the public after exhausting other attempts to find him.
