Crews fish car out of reservoir after high-speed chase

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A driver sped off of an embankment into Lookout Point Reservoir during a high speed chase early Thursday morning, leaving Lane County Sheriff's Officers to fish the vehicle out of the water later that afternoon.

Police tried to stop a white Dodge for driving with expired tags at 42nd Street and Highway 126. The driver, Timothy James Caldwell then lead police on a high speed chase that ended in Lookout Point Reservoir.

Later that evening a crew from Lane County Sheriff's Department, the volunteer search and rescue dive team and two trucks from T & M towing worked to haul the 1991 Dodge Dynasty from the reservoir.

The endeavor took the crew close to three hours to haul the vehicle up the 100-foot embankment.

Caldwell is jailed on charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude an officer. He also had a warrant out for his arrest related to charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
