Ship like Chip: Ducks featured in UPS ad
EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon football program is featured in a new advertisement for UPS, that will compare the Duck's quick offense to the quick package delivery time.
The advertisement entitled "Duckgistics" (found below) will be featured around the country. It compares Oregon's uniforms, helmets and fast-paced, no-huddle offense to UPS, a corporate sponsor of the Oregon football program.
UPS said that the commercial is using the ducks to highlight their logistics, or getting things there they need to be, when they need to be there.
For University of Oregon marketing professor Bettina Cornwell, the ad is great at communicating the football program's speed and personality in a fun way.
"When a sponsor invests in a sport property like the Ducks, the way they can communicate the most about the investment is also pairing it with advertising that relates to the sponsorship." Cornwell said.
KVAL's Lindsey Riley asked some students at UO about the advertising. Many people see it as a positive for both UPS and the University.
"It's national brand exposure for out brand, and our university ... getting people interested across the country" said UO student Bradie Hughes. "Seeing the Duck and coach Kelly up close is important."
UPS's corporate sponsorship contract states that they are able to use the school in advertisements and through the media.
Suspicions confirmed. Chip Kelly only provides those short (though responsive) answers to inane questions when talking to sports casters.   He is capable of articulation!
