EUGENE, Ore. - One man is dead and another is in police custody after a deadly home invasion in a southeast Eugene neighborhood.
Eugene Police responded to a report of a burglary at the 3000 block of Stoney Ridge Road around 3 p.m. Thursday.
Police said one suspect is confirmed deceased. A Springfield K9 unit caught the second suspect in a brushy area 1/4 of a mile away from the home.
"I looked out the window right away and I saw a tall lean dark haired man just racing down the street," said Lani Loken, a resident in the neighborhood.
Loken said she heard multiple gunshots that afternoon.
"It was just like a gun - bam, bam, bam," Loken said. "It wasn't like a car backfiring or anything like that. It was definitely gunshots."
While the Stoney Ridge neighborhood is still shaken up, residents said they are thankful the police responded as rapidly as they did.
"My son heard the sirens even as he was heading down to try to find this young man," Loken said.
Authorities have not yet confirmed who fired the shots or if anyone inside the home was injured.
The names of the suspects have not yet been released.
