EUGENE, Ore. -- A woman suffered serious injuries when her older model pickup hit a tree after losing control in a curve on Chambers Street.
Emergency crews responded to the crash near Chambers at 5th Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police said that a woman was driving her older model pickup north on Chambers when she "failed to negotiate a curve". The woman lost control of her vehicle, crossed traffic to the other side of the road and drove onto the sidewalk before crashing head-on into a tree.
She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said that those injuries are considered non-life threatening.
Officers blocked off the southbound lane Chambers until they confirmed the extent of the woman's injuries. They called out a tow truck to clear the wreckage just after 10 p.m., southbound traffic was re-opened shortly thereafter.
Police have started an investigation at the crash scene to determine what caused the accident.
Eyewitnesses said that speed appeared to be a factor. Police relayed witness reports stating that the woman was speeding when she drifted across traffic and into the tree.
