Smoke over W. Eugene from intentional fire
EUGENE, Ore. - Crews continued burning the West Eugene Wetlands off W. 11th Avenue on Wednesday, putting up a plume of smoke over the city.
The plan: mimic fire's natural role in the ecosystem.

So here we are where the fire danger is "HIGH" and some of our City and County officials think that it's perfectly okay to start a fire in town near home's and schools because they can't wait for a "Safer" time to do this. We as a community should not tolerate such actions!

Last night I was riding west on the Fernridge bike path and when I reached Bertelsen I could not breath from the smoke and had to turn back. Iâve been coughing since from the damaging effects I suffered. They are not supposed to do these burns on days that the weather conditions brings smoke into city. This is serious business, people can die from sudden asthma attacks with unexpected smoke and in the very least experience lung damage. Who will pay for the medical bills? I highly doubt they will offer to or could afford to. This is plain stupidity and incompetence on the part of BLM people and LRAPA for issuing permits. We need to make sure this doesnât happen again!
No wonder I can't breathe.
I thought we, as regular people, were under restrictions on open fires due to high fire danger. Burning is closed for the summer season. Why couldn't the OFFICIALS follow the same rules and do their burn in late October when the danger of the fire spreading and getting out of control was lessened and we could expect rain to clear the smoke from the city.
So I ask myself again....how is this ok but field burning is not allowed? I can't figure it out
@Hmmm... the scale of field burning dwarfs this project.  The timing of the burning most likely has to do with the regeneration/establishment of certain plants with the fall rains. Let be glad this burn is not on top of 50,000 acres of field burning.
@drinkmorewater  @Hmmm... Well, "Hmmm..." knows better than everyone about everything. S/he even thinks that because millions of years ago the continents were connected, then the Native Americans are a bunch of cry-babies for insisting that the U. S. government honor solemn treaties (even when it's a PRIVATE organization that is restoring tribal lands to their rightful owners). See the comments here: http://www.kval.com/news/local/Tribes-celebrate-Rattlesnake-Butte-near-Junction-City-168970416.html

It's pointless trying to educate such people. As my mother told me long ago, "never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig."

But I enjoy annoying pigs like this in my down time.
