Springfield bank robber turns himself in

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --  A Springfield bank robber turned himself in Saturday, a day after he made off with money from a Springfield Credit Union, Springfield Police said.

On Friday afternoon a man entered the Oregon Community Credit Union on Mohawk and Marcola Road. He approached a teller and demanded money, claiming that he had a gun. The teller gave the man money before he fled the scene.

SPD said they arrived on-scene at around 5:40 p.m. Friday and gathered a witness description of the robber. The investigation lead police to believe that Springfield-resident Cody Daniel Gordon was involved with the robbery.

Detectives tried unsuccessfully to find Gordon after the robbery on Friday evening. However, the man turned himself into police on Saturday.

Gordon was arrested for the robbery and charged with second degree robbery. He is being lodged at the Lane County Jail.

Officials are continuing the investigation into the robbery.

Springfield Police Detectives are being assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on the case. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call SPD at (541) 726-3714.
